Sounds like such a great event! I love when something mixes creativity and hands-on work kinda reminds me of setting up small CNC dovetail where precision and art meet. The mermaid sandcastle contest and movie on the beach sound like the perfect combo. Hope they make it a yearly thing!

Great article. Exchange rates have changed alot since you wrote this but the content is spot on. Currently sitting by the Nile and discussing our terrible taxi fleecing (35usd) from the airport. But at the end of the day it’s nothing to us so we’ll get over it in an hour.

I think the issue is the fact there are so few sites for tourists to go to that the drivers need to win big when we do need them. So that’s fair enough.

It’s an issue all over Egypt but aswan shows it up due to the lack of other options.

I am so grateful for your fantastic article and pictures! We are Protestants of the Reformed system of beliefs and my husband and I homeschool our daughter (and eventually will add baby number 2 and 3 to the homeschool mix). We celebrate Reformation Day every year on October 31st and it is a big deal in our household and spend it making treats together, watching the movie Luther starring Joseph Fiennes, Reformation-themed games in the backyard, a home-cooked German-inspired feast, a one-day unit study on the Reformation, the Reformation Fathers (Luther, Calvin, et al), and all the happenings surrounding that period of time everywhere else in the world. We invite our friends, family and neighbors to partake and everyone always has so much fun and are surprised about how much there is to learn about the Reformation movement and church history. Your article adds another layer of interest and education to our unit study. Thank you so much!

Loved this take on slow travel in the Caribbean. There’s something amazing about just slowing down and letting the vibe of a place sink in instead of rushing around. I did the same in Miami once spent my days just wandering, chatting with locals, and watching sunsets instead of ticking off spots. Ended up being one of the most relaxing trips I’ve ever had.
